Sustainable Energy Development Office E-newsletter April 2009
Welcome to Adobe GoLive 6
Welcome to the April 2009 e-Newsletter and with the Easter break behind us SEDO is again in top gear promoting a greater use of renewable energy and ways to save energy and money through energy efficient products.
In this edition, we review the recent Greenhouse 2009 Conference held in Perth that included a presentation on climate change being no longer just about technical science; but extending to the social sciences such as our psychological responses when confronted by the climate change issue.
A new energy report has identified the short-term cost challenges to maintaining secure energy supplies and also meet climate change and renewable energy targets in the United Kingdom.
In Europe and the United States, the global economic crunch has reduced the price of carbon credits and so environmentally friendly energy projects have become less financially attractive.
Locally, the Green Star environmental rating scheme for commercial buildings
covering design, construction and operational phases is profiled and the outcomes that can reduce the impact that buildings cause to our environment.
And thousands of visitors attended the annual Perth Sun Fair at the UWA, where SEDO staff discussed energy efficiency and energy saving ideas and handed out lots of thermometers, fridge magnets and recyclable pencils and rulers with important Energy Smart messages.
Finally, the six new release Green UBD Street Directories that we offered to our current e-Newsletter subscribers last month to encourage them to recruit new members was very successful. Thanks for all the contributions.
Congratulations Daniel, Valentin, David, Bob, Tim and Marc. A copy of the 2009 UBD Street Directory will be posted to each of you and greetings to all our new SEDO e-Newsletter recipients.
The monthly e-Newsletter will keep on informing you about the latest local and overseas advances in renewable energy and the many useful ways we can all achieve greater energy efficiency in our day-to-day activities.

Commercial buildings should reach for the stars
As office buildings get taller in the pursuit of more lettable space and tower higher toward the sky, it’s become increasingly important that they reach for the stars as well. With the Green Star environmental rating scheme - a voluntary national program that rates the environmental design attributes of commercial buildings – we can reduce the substantial impact that buildings have on our environment.
