Sustainable Energy Development Office Newsletter August 2009

Welcome to Adobe GoLive 6

The SEDO team has been in training for the annual Perth City to Surf fun-run on the 30 August and will join 40,000 others in either the marathon, half marathon, 12km run, 4km walk or run and contribute to a wonderful community fund raiser for the Activ organisation.

We are working hard on our sustainable energy techniques and no doubt will be renewing our energy levels at the City Beach finish line. We encourage the spectators along the course to cheer the competitors along and make the City to Surf another enjoyable experience for all those taking part.

In this edition of Sustainable Energy Matters we encourage small to medium businesses to apply for rebates of up to $10,000 to prepare a management plan towards implementing cost effective energy saving measures.

The deserts of North Africa may be developed as the solar power generation hub for European electricity consumers in the future as MOUs are signed and high voltage cables carrying the energy are planned to be connected under the Mediterranean.

Delegates who attended the annual WA Local Government Convention heard UK climate change and energy expert Allan Jones discuss his experiences in achieving dramatic reductions in carbon emissions through decentralised energy solutions.

A new set of national wind farm industry guidelines to assist the planning and approval processes and establish community consultation best practice are being developed and will be available for public comment later in the year.

And the Sustainable House Day is just around the corner (13 September) and this year 10 home-owners in WA regional and Perth Metropolitan areas will open their ‘castles and discuss first-hand the benefits of their sustainable living concepts and how to get started.

Best wishes for another sustainable read.
