Bright Future For The Solar Water Heating Industry

All newly installed solar water heaters, except retro-fit kits, are soon expected to attract Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), effectively shaving around $1000 off the purchase price. This is welcome news for Western Australia, which is considered the hub of Australian solar water heater manufacturing.  More info...

Mandurah Residents Help Save Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Action plans to reduce energy and water use as a result of free home assessments have been developed by 50 households in the City of Mandurah. The assessments were undertaken with funding assistance from the Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee. Results of the initial audit indicate that if all participating households follow through on their action plans there is a potential to save an average of around 0.9 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and 17.5 kilolitres of water per year.  More info...

New Market Rules To Benefit Renewable Energy Generators

The Minister for Energy, Hon Eric Ripper, introduced a new Top-Up and Spill market into the Western Australian electricity industry on 25 June. The market will facilitate the participation of independent power producers, including private renewable energy generators, in the local electricity market.  More info...

Best Practices In Lighting Workshop

The partners of the proposed Lighting Innovation Centre and the Australian Greenhouse Office are presenting a series of national workshops on best practices in lighting. The full day workshops are intended to create an increased awareness and demand for high quality sustainable lighting leading to a positive impact on the well being of occupants, increased productivity and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The workshops are aimed at architects, building designers, lighting engineers, facility managers and others interested in increasing productivity through better lighting quality.  More info...

Free Community Seminars In Regional Western Australia

This year the Sustainable Energy Development Office has initiated a number of free educational seminars for the community throughout the Perth metropolitan area. Similar seminars will now be held in regional towns of Western Australia, with the first taking place in Carnarvon at the end of this month. The main purpose of the seminars is to provide information and advice on ways to save energy and greenhouse gas emissions at home.  More info...

Funding For Renewable Energy And Energy Efficiency Projects

The Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee is seeking applications for its August funding round. The Committee provides funding for the development of sustainable energy technologies and information based projects, such as research and development, demonstration and education initiatives. The Committee's primary goal is to encourage renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Western Australia.  More info...

Practical Advice On Energy Management

Central TAFE is offering a two-day workshop on energy efficiency over the next few months in Kalgoorlie and Perth. The workshop is being part-funded by the Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee and is mainly aimed at non-technical people who have responsibility for energy management within their organisation. There will also be sufficient technical information to ensure that everyone gains from the shared knowledge and experiences.  More info...
