New Wind Turbine For Bremer Bay

Bremer Bay, on the Western Australian south coast, will have electricity generated by the wind when a single, 600 kW wind turbine is built at the town, 400km south-east of Perth. The Bremer Bay wind project is the latest in a series of new wind systems installed by Western Power across regional Western Australia to generate renewable energy and to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of local electricity supplies.  More info...

Claremont Pool Heated By Geothermal Energy

Since December 2003, the outdoor pool at Claremont Swimming Pool has been maintained at a constant temperature of 27°C using a geothermal heating system. The Town of Claremont chose the geothermal system despite the high capital outlay due to its low operating costs and sustainable design. The local council have been more than pleased with their choice, with operating costs totalling just $2,500 for the first half of 2004. Being more energy efficient, the geothermal system also results in lower greenhouse gas emissions. It is estimated that the system will save 8,300 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over a 25-year period.  More info...

Sustainable Energy Comes To The Pilbara

The Town of Port Hedland will be running an education program over the next year in major Pilbara towns as part of its Pilbara Sustainable Living Project. The project is aimed at facilitating behavioural change towards efficient and sustainable use of resources and includes free EcoSmart House and Office assessments for Pilbara residents. The project is being funded by the Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee.  More info...

LandCorp's Sustainability Report Now Available

Planning and Infrastructure Minister, Hon Allanah MacTiernan, launched LandCorp's first sustainability report "Sustainability 2004...The story so far" on 31 July. The report details how the State Government's specialist land and property developer is working towards sustainability, most notably through its Harvest Lakes residential estate at Atwell. LandCorp has acknowledged that while it has taken vital initial steps to address sustainability, it may not get it right every time and is committed to achieving a more comprehensive sustainability performance across all its projects.  More info...

WA On Show To Open Perth Convention Exhibition Centre

The upcoming 'WA on Show' exhibition will mark the official launch of the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, located on the foreshore of the Swan River. WA on Show is Western Australia's premier event and is the first 'whole of WA' exhibition, with Government agencies joining forces with industry partners to showcase the State's finest attributes and products. It will include displays from the Sustainable Energy Development Office on energy efficiency and renewable energy.  More info...

Sustainable Energy Seminar At Rockingham

Naragebup, the Rockingham Regional Environment Centre, is hosting a one-day seminar on sustainable energy use for businesses and householders who want to find out about simple ways to reduce energy use, establish a renewable energy system or be informed about Government rebates. The seminar is being part-funded by the Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee.  More info...

Hydrogen And Fuel Cells Futures Conference

The Department for Planning and Infrastructure is hosting a Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Futures Conference from 12 - 15 September 2004. The aim of the conference is to bring together international experts in the fields of hydrogen and fuel cells and policy makers and practioners in the sustainable transport industry.  More info...
