National Framework For Energy Efficiency

On the 27 August 2004, the Ministerial Council on Energy agreed, in principle, to the implementation of nine policy packages over three years constituting the first stage of the National Framework for Energy Efficiency. The purpose of the National Framework is to unlock the significant but untapped economic potential associated with increased energy efficiency across the Australian economy to achieve a major enhancement of Australia's energy performance. It will also deliver the associated benefits of reduced energy demand and lower greenhouse gas emissions.  More info...

Replacement Of Water Heaters Reduces Energy Use

The Village Green Community Foundation has been helping people in the Bassendean area save energy and greenhouse gas emissions through their 'Watch Your Dollars and Cents for Greenhouse Commonsense' project. A total of 46 households with electric water heaters have been participating in the project, which was funded by the Sustainable Energy Development Office Grants Committee. The project is designed to help families understand their electricity use and reduce energy consumption by targeting hot water use, which accounts for 31% of household energy consumption in Western Australia.  More info...

Main Roads Heading In The Right Direction

The Don Aitken Centre, a building owned by Main Roads, has undergone a complete overhaul of its air conditioning system during the last ten months. Part of the upgrade was made possible through a Capital Advance from the Energy Smart Government program at the Sustainable Energy Development Office. The Capital Advance was provided to assist Main Roads achieve the Government's energy saving targets for State Government agencies and will be repaid over a five year period from the savings resulting from reduced energy consumption.  More info...

Energy Smart Trade Expo

The Sustainable Energy Development Office is organising an Energy Smart Trade Expo in November to bring together leading Western Australian suppliers and installers of energy efficient products and services with key personnel from more than 60 government agencies. If you'd like the opportunity to market your business and energy efficient products and services to a target audience of Government Energy Executives and Managers, you can register your interest now.  More info...

Promoting Energy Efficient Appliances

Sales staff from a number of major electrical and gas appliance retailers in Western Australia will be provided with training on appliance energy rating labels over the next year as part of the Reach for the Stars program. The program started in Western Australia in February 2003 and has recently been extended to further promote the sale and use of energy efficient domestic appliances throughout the state.  More info...

Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme Launched

The Federal Minister for Environment and Heritage, Senator Ian Campbell, launched a new mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme during August. The national scheme will be phased in so that by late next year, six appliances must carry water efficiency labels including washing machines, dishwashers and showerheads (all of which consume energy either directly or indirectly). The scheme will also introduce voluntary water efficiency labels on flow control devices for taps.  More info...

Live Energy Smart In Kalgoorlie

The next regional Energy Smart community seminar is taking place in Kalgoorlie in October. The seminar is free and is aimed at helping local residents identify where most of the energy is used in the home to help save energy and money. There will be several speakers at the seminar covering a range of topics, including solar passive house design, home energy ratings, insulation and energy ratings of household appliances.  More info...

Green Vehicle Guide

The Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide is now available online to help consumers see how different vehicles compare in terms of greenhouse and air pollution emissions. The Green Vehicle Guide provides ratings on the environmental performance of new light vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass) sold in Australia.  More info...
