Energy Smart Trade Expo – Book Now!
The Sustainable Energy Development Office will host the Energy Smart Trade Expo in May 2005. The Expo will bring together leading suppliers and installers of energy efficient products and services with key personnel from more than 60 government agencies. Representatives from business and local government authorities are encouraged to attend.

First WA Company to Receive an ABGR Tenancy Rating
Lincolne Scott Consulting Engineers recently received an Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) Tenancy Rating of 4.5 stars for their new office in West Perth. The rating is a great result for the company, which went to considerable lengths to incorporate sustainability into the office design. Lincolne Scott Consulting Engineers are the first company to have received an ABGR Tenancy Rating in Western Australia.

Mining Industry Sets a New Environmental Benchmark
Mining company, Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, recently installed a 31kW solar power system at Hamersley Station, near Tom Price. The system is considered to be the largest individual photovoltaic installation in Western Australia.

Checkpoints Running on Solar
Department of Agriculture checkpoints at Eucla and Kununurra will soon be running on renewable energy. The initiatives will contribute to the Department’s Energy Smart Government commitment and demonstrate that renewable energy can be a viable alternative to diesel power generation.

A new report by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy has identified 25 new technologies and practices as having the most significant potential for reducing energy consumption in homes and commercial buildings. While the report is written from an American perspective, many of the measures could also have far reaching implications in Australia.

Recognition of City of Melville's Energy Performance
The City of Melville has been implementing energy saving projects for over 15 years, most recently obtaining an Australian Building Greenhouse Rating of their Civic Centre. The Australian Building Greenhouse Rating uses a one to five star rating to benchmark a building’s greenhouse impact, with one being the most greenhouse intensive and five stars the least. The City of Melville’s Civic Centre achieved an Australian Building Greenhouse Rating of 3 stars, which is current industry best practice.
