Heating your home
As the temperature cools and we head to the shops in search of a new heater, it’s important to look at all the heating options before you buy. Keeping your home warm needn't use a lot of energy. Energy efficient homes can stay warm with little artificial heating so before you buy a new heater, consider what you can do to reduce your heating requirements:
- Fit insulation in the ceiling cavity
- Stop draughts coming through doors, windows and floorboards
- Keep heat in with pelmets and curtains or heavy blinds on windows
- Only heat rooms in use
- Don’t overheat the house – setting the thermostat one degree lower will give a significant saving
- Wear appropriate clothing for the winter season.
