Campaign to Save Energy and Water
Perth’s ABC radio broadcaster, Eoin Cameron, launched on July 2 a six month campaign to fight climate change by pledging to reduce his own energy and water consumption by 20%.

United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) releases new report on buildings and climate change
A recent report from the UNEP states that worldwide, the building sector accounts for between 30 and 40% of global energy consumption. As high energy users, buildings can play a major role in combating global warming by becoming more energy efficient in their construction and operation.

Big business required to focus on saving energy
The Federal Government’s energy assessment program for big business is now in full swing. This national program requires Australia’s biggest energy users to conduct regular energy assessments in an effort to reduce their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.

Industry and government launch motor MEPS awareness campaign
Energy consumed by appliances and equipment is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. To help reduce these harmful emissions, the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (AEEMA) has joined forces with the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Committee to promote awareness of mandatory efficiency standards in electric motors.

Energy saving street lamp wins American design competition
The fourth annual Next Generation design competition carried a highly relevant and popular theme this year. Entrants were asked to address the issue of energy in their designs and the winning company, Civil Twilight, developed an innovative alternative to conventional street lighting.
